Our Aim

theartplace is an initiative to promote young upcoming artists with fresh ideas, thereby bringing unique work to art lovers. Launched in April 2014 by curator Shabnam Lilani, the website functions as an online space where artists’ can showcase their work in order to market them. theartplace seeks to not only help avid art lovers and collectors but to also assist a broader audience develop a passion and understanding for art. Works featured at theartplace include a variety of mediums including installations, photography, sculpture, digital media, videos, paintings and drawings.

About the founder
Shabnam Lilani is a Mumbai based curator with a keen interest in the digital space. She has seven years of experience working in the arts and also has extensive experience working with the media industry. She is the founder of the www.theartplace.in which is an online gallery showcasing the works of young artists, creating a new platform to promote their works. Lilani is the curatorial assistant to Diana Campbell Betancourt and was instrumental in producing the digital exhibition Listen Up! in New Delhi; the 2014 Dhaka Art Summit and the ArtC public program in Chennai. She was the assistant curator to the Artistic Director at the 2016 Dhaka Art Summit. She recently curated an exhibition for artist Dibakar Das. Lilani also worked for internationally acclaimed visual artist Shilpa Gupta for four years focusing on the research, production, and installation of her new media works. Apart from this Lilani has also produced works for solo exhibition at the Mumbai Art Room.
